“Rain, My April”:
The Cultural Association of Limenaria «To Kastro» organizes the third day of Easter in Kalyvia of Limenaria the traditional custom «Rain, My April », demonstrating the remarkable ability of Greek tradition to be adapted and perpetuated.
The name of the custom, which has ancient Dionysian roots, comes from the homonymous ritual dance accompanied by singing, requiring April, the Nature and mainly God for the spring rain, that is essential for the success of vegetation.
In the centuries that passed, many human activities have changed, but the water was, is and will remain a source of life both for human beings and for nature itself. We should not forget that water for Thassos is what gives the fertile ground, the abundant vegetation and that is the reason that makes this island unique, dowering it with a special beauty.
Living in daily life that is full of anxiety and obligations, people have a need for mental relaxation. Understanding the importance of maintaining the tradition in the current era of technology, the Cultural Association «To Kastro» gives an opportunity for residents of Limenaria to unite, to discuss, to be together in feast and in joy, and also in other life activities, to cooperate and work together for the progress of their territory.
So, what is even better than to come together and take advantage of the most pleasant event, dancing and singing. Thus, the custom is not simply a habit without any meaning and purpose, but this is meaningful part of the inhabitants’ life.
